Looking at
Bavaria today it is difficult to imagine that the area was
once a tropical archipelago inhabited by dinosaurs and other
long extinct creatures. More recently, the dominant species
here has been Homo sapiens sapiens – modern Humans.
Around 10,000
years ago the ice that had covered large parts of Europe
(Bavaria included) retreated. This allowed societies to
develop and later flourish. These ancient peoples have left
many traces, some obvious, such as gigantic earth works and
burial mounds, some more subtle, such as place or river
names. Dark History are pleased to offer tours that
explore and attempt to make sense of these traces of the
past.
We are pleased
to offer a new tour which takes a
look at the history and archaeology of Regensburg. In
the Roman period, an impregnable fortress, with a garrison
of 6000 Legionaires, was built here. Warfare along the Roman
frontier in this region was at times endemic. These days
Regensburg is not quite so hectic. To learn more about this
fascinating site and our history and archaeology tour -

Other exciting
tours that cater for the inquisitive mind and armchair
archaeologist under development.
