Welcome to the home of Dark History Tours. We hope that you find the site useful and that if you are visiting Munich that you enjoy your trip.
Dark History Tours consider that an understanding of the past – a past which is often seen as boring, stifling or at worst, irrelevant – is vital to understanding the present.

History need not be about mouldy old books, faraway places you will never see and names and dates you can never remember. A tour with us is more about handling original artefacts, visiting the places whose names you maybe first read about in school and getting the key facts that help you make sense of your tour.

This website is envisaged as not just being an advert for history-themed tours. History was until fairly recently, generally written by, or for, successful rulers or generals. The lives and conditions of ordinary, poorer folk often went unreported. The glory of a successful campaign or construction of some mighty edifice would often be preserved in writing or art from the perspective of those who lived in the upper echelons of society. The life and conditions of the feudal serf, foot soldier or serving girl were of comparatively little interest, even though society ultimately depended on those on the lower social rungs. It is planned that each of the tours offered here will have a page or two of background information on the life and times of society in general, specific to that particular tour.

We believe in being upfront and giving you value for money. There are no hidden costs - all entry fees and travel costs are included in the price. The only thing we won't pay for is your beer or wine and food (although in the summer time we will provide private tours with chilled mineral water - we don't want you passing out and missing your tour).

Should you have any special requests or require further information regarding our services, please do not hesitate to drop us a line.

This website is still under construction but will be updated regularly.
