Taff Simon is an Archaeologist, Military Historian and Tour Guide based
in Munich, Bavaria. He read archaeology, geography and history in
Winchester, England and graduated in 1999. Since then he has excavated
on sites as diverse as Prehistoric settlements, Hadrian’s Wall World
Heritage Site to Second World War sites and aircraft and has also
appeared on the popular Channel 4 show “Time Team”.
Taff has spent over 20 years researching the military and social history
of the Second World War. During this time he has
interviewed countless veterans of the period, both German and Allied,
soldier and civilian. His particular interests are in the history of the German home front and in the
ethnicity and social history of the Soviet Union up to 1945.
A former chef, he maintains an interest in
cooking and actively researches the recipes and techniques of the past,
be they prehistoric flatbreads, medieval lent recipes or cooking with
wartime rations. This interest in the historical diet is reflected in
this website.
He has produced or contributed towards historical events for (among
others) English Heritage, The National Trust, The Fighter Collection,
Duxford, The North Eastern War Museum, as well as working as an
historical advisor for TV and film.
He currently spends his time working as a field archaeologist and tour
guide in Munich and looks forward to meeting you for your tour.
